Peak District
- Giant’s Hole
A Great Freshers trip! It involves:
- A 5 minute walk from the car park to the entrance of the cave all changed and geared up!
- An option of doing the Giants Upper Trip or the Round Trip
- Garlands Pot – a beautiful waterfall by which you descend
- Crabwalk: a narrow passage of walking and a bit of a challenge for the slightly bigger people
- Jumping into sumps and getting wet
- The Windpipe – a low crawl through water
- Lots of fun!
- P8
P8…also known as Jackpot cave!
-very popular trip!
-has a bit of sporting, wet passages and pretty formations!
-can be done using ladders or ropes!
-lots of fun!
- Peak cavern
Peak Cavern has far more to offer than what you see at the show cave!
- you can get changed in the warmth of the TSG and walk up to the entrance of Peak Cavern
- walk through a passage with Buxton Waters on your left (here is where you will wash your caving clothes on the way back after you’re done with the caving
- 3 muddy ducks to get past – a nice refreshing duck in water – water level is usually waist high
- Keep going till you get a point called ‘Surprise View’…this involves a 6m descend down a ladder which leads to the Mainstream passage
- From here you have two options: Right or Left.
-Right - will take you to the upper end of Buxton Water through an amazing passage (many people like taking pictures there)
- Left – gives option for further wet caving!
But Peak Cavern is a lot more than what has been described here. These are some terms you will become familiar with after caving there for a while: Surprise View, Treasury Sump, Far Sump, Pickering’s passage, muddy Ducks, Moss Chamber, Speedwell, Upper Chamber, Galena Chamber, White River Series…..and many more!
It is worth having a look at some of the pictures taken in there by some of the photographers in SUSS (i.e Tom Smith and Ali M)
- Carlswark
A cave that still has much more digging to be done to find out what more there is!
- lots of crawling
- a nice descend down into the main passage
- muddy!
