A Weekend at the Chapel

By Tom1

This weekend a selection of SUSSites descended on the TSG for fun and games. On the saturday me, Ginger Steve, Sema and fresher Sam went for a play down P8 (after realising I’d forgotten the wellies for Sam)…

I went in the alternative entrance to P8 which is rather tight and grim then met up with the others to get the rope and stuff before shooting off to rig the first pitch, and had a good faff doing it. we then headed straight down the stream to the true second pitch and in to the bottom. After travelling to the downstream sump and convincing Sema to walk most of the way in the stream without realising the rest of us were on the traverse, we went out via the intestines and then me and Sam went out traversing along the roof of the streamway. Good times.

Steve and Sam headed back to Sheffield and me and Sema went back into Castleton for beer and onion ringsbefore the likes of big Jim and other TSGers arrived.

After a bedtime story from Tooley we went to sleep eager to get caving in the morning…

The trip down peak was a success just read about the cave mouse adventures.

Later that evening me and Denise went off to Eldon Hole with Big Jim…

First time down Eldon for me and Denise, we followed Jim down into the main chamber. we then went up the pull-through in to … chamber and up into the top. It’s much prettier than I was expecting and was so busy admiring all the nice bits that I managed to scare the crap out of myself at the head of the top pitch on the way down by slipping. fortunately I was safely clipped in but regardless I slung both arms around the rock and held on rather tight. Excitement over we headed out and waited for Jim do speedily de-rig.

All in all a fantastic cave filled weekend.
