Eldon Hole – First Time Rigging

By Chris Playfoot

So i’ve been wanting to practice how to rig for a while now, so when the opportunity to rig Eldon Hole came up I jumped at the chance. Nothing like a good bit of exposure on pitches eh!

I rigged the West wall route which had a few Y hangs and single rebilets. No problems there. Advice from the Big Armbar was duly noted and stored for the next time.

This time last year I was busy faffing at the rebelay just trying to decend! You can’t beat a good bit of progression.

With Sam and Alisa decending the North? wall we reconveened at the bottom, with the aroma of dead sheep and numerous frogs that Alisa was trying to avoid. Having decided against going up to the aven inside, we made our exits after Andy had come down for a quick look too.

I de-rigged so I could see what i’d change next time such as loop sizes.

Oh and i’m open to anymore offers of patient people taking me rigging!

Chris
