As part of a summer filled of fourien expeditions, 6 members of SUSS returned to Crete to continue exploring “Colosuss”, a 200m deep cave found in 2008 on SUSS’s expedition last year. Luckily, after 2 months of planning and 3 days of gear carrying and setting up, they returned to the previous end to discover that the cave continued on down! For 5 consecutive days the team carried on pushing the end, split into 2 teams of 3 and attacking it in shifts. Soon the cave was -500m deep and still going down! Unfortunately they found a large boulder pile which blocked the main way on. However climbing up and over the pile led into a massive chamber over 50m high – Final Destination. This discovery marked the end of the cave and the team then derigged and came home.

A return trip to the White Mountains of Crete is already in the planning for next year. It won’t be back to Colosuss, rather to go and find another one…
